Oh Christmas tree x

Did you have snow this week ? we had great big flakes it was lovely, there was a big debate during the week as to the date you put your decorations and tree up, I always get my tree at the beginning of December and leave it out with the netting off for the branches to drop and make my cake xx

We have here today some little incites into the history of doll making xx

CALICO originated in Calicut, from which the name of the textile came, in South India, now Kerala, during the 11th century, where the cloth was known as "chaliyan".It was mentioned in Indian literature by the 12th century when the polymath and writer Hemachandra described calico fabric prints with a lotus design. Calico was woven using Gujarati cotton from Surat for both the warp and weft. By the 15th century, calico from Gujarat made its appearance in Cairo, then capital of the Egypt Eyalet under the Ottoman Empire. Trade with Europe followed from the 17th century onwards.        wikipedia

THE HISTORY OF CLOTH DOLLS dates back to ancient civilizations, with early examples found in Roman graves. Initially, they were simple, homemade "rag dolls" created from scraps of fabric and stuffing, often used as comfort objects or to teach sewing skills. Mass production began around 1830 with advancements in fabric printing, and cloth dolls continued to evolve throughout the industrial revolution and the 20th century, becoming more complex, featuring mechanical parts, depicting specific characters, and developing into collectible folk art.    wikipedia

Its still snowing in Button Dolls Land I see!
Yes we had some snow yesterday being on the edge of the Wolds but nothing compared to some areas of Yorkshire. Its all gone now apart from a few little pockets.
Fascinating history of calico and cloth dolls.
I made my Christmas cake a few weeks ago and am lacing it with brandy now but I am doing another one for my sister.
Tend to put my tree up the week before Christmas. Its creeping up fast.
Have a nice weekend S x

We had some snow on Wednesday but it didn’t settle. I know it causes disruption but looks so beautiful and gives moments of peace and joy especially for the children . Hope everyone keeps well and we all have some joyful times . Warm wishes.
